Gallery Night is rapidly approaching and we’re is excited to announce we’re hosting a new exhibit of original paintings by local artist Bruce Fortney.
Bruce was born in Prairie du Chien and later lived in Mineral Point for several years. He recently relocated to nearby Boscobel where he currently lives and works. We’ve happily carried Bruce’s work at Brewery Pottery for over a decade.
For this exhibit, Along the Wisconsin River, Bruce’s large scale oil paintings will have an emphasis on the Wisconsin River. You’ll enjoy scenes from the river and experience different perspectives about life in and around the river. All the paintings will hang on the main gallery wall (and a few sprinkled around the other walls of the gallery too!)
Bruce says, “The Size of the canvas is an important aspect of the image. It cannot be made “smaller” without changing its entire relevance of expression. I work in oil because it gives me time to work and re-work a painting. The paint often takes 10 or more days to dry, allowing the creative process to extend over several days and various states of mind.
Like music, painting is another language and I really don’t understand why people spend so much time “talking” about it. Verbal communication really does not adequately translate into pictorial or musical language. If it could be put into words, painting would have no reason to exist.”
All of Bruce’s one-of-a-kind, original framed pieces will be for sale in a variety of price points.
