Garden Seedlings

We’re on our garden shenanigans again this year. One bazillion seeds and counting!

Tom is spearheading the vegetable portion and making all those particular choices – choosing what veggies we grow and where they’re planted. He’s the “food garden” captain.

He already started veggie seeds outside. Radishes, spinach, and peas so far. They started to pop their little heads up a week or two ago. We’re supplementing those seeds with established starts from the Mineral Point Farmers Market. We got a few tomatoes and eggplants from Shooting Star Farm already and more things to come!

Diana and Claire also took a little trip to Cushman’s Greenhouse last week and grabbed a few other things too. Mostly an assortment of herbs, but also lettuce and a spider plant houseplant (are you even at a garden store if you don’t impulse purchase a houseplant?)

Diana is taking the lead on the “flower garden”. She chose all the flower varieties and planted up so many flats that we’ve had under some wild but necessary pink growing lights (they’re truly an assault on your eyeballs). Multiple varieties of Zinnias, Dianthus, Cleome, Calendula, Snapdragons and on and on. Seriously a lot.

Claire is happily documenting both gardens, watering the plant babies, hammering in new fence posts, and looking forward to reaping the benefits of both areas. Food and beauty! Check, check.

Anyway, leaving these few photos here of the flower babies thus far. They’ll get planted outside soon, no doubt.

I’ll keep our social media feed updated with the latest and greatest! #gardenwatch2023

Below, more springy stuff.

More garden updates as the year progresses. Happy planting season, if you’re a planter!

Until next time,
Claire
